SUMMER COTTAGE TOUR

The Summer Cottage Tour, a Muskoka Conservancy fund-raising event, started and ended at Touchstone on Lake Muskoka, with the Wenonah II delivering the tour group to a pair of cottages, a contrast of old and new Muskoka. Willardby, named after its original owner, Dr. Lewis Willard, is one of the oldest and most original Beaumaris cottages found on the famous Millionaires' Row. A chapter and photographs of its boathouses can be found in the coffeetable classic, Shelter at the Shore. The other is a modern log mansion and boathouse at Montcalm Point, the name inherited from a former hotel that once occupied this location. Its boathouse is also featured in print however to truly appreciate the whole property and its latest renovations a virtual tour is available online. It is currently listed on the market and can be yours for $8 million.

15TH HOLE

While exploring more of Beaumaris on foot this weekend I took a break on an elevated terrace overlooking the 15th hole of the golf course. Beyond in the background is Baby's Bay and its picturesque bridge, providing boat access beneath its middle and for golf carts that cottage owners use to reach their properties around the island.

BEAUTIFUL BEAUMARIS

Named by the original pioneers after a resort destination in Wales and their own fond memories, its namesake provides cottagers and tourists with similar experiences. During the summer the marina is
a popular stop and in addition to selling boating paraphernalia they carry souvenir clothing printed with the logo, Beautiful Beaumaris.

CATHY'S TOO

A colourful sign announces that Willmotts Store is now open for the summer season. Although the store retains the name of the original proprietor, Cathy Potts, owner of Cathy's Corner Store in Milford Bay operates this second location, the reason behind the name on the other sign, Cathy's Too, as well as this is her second time running it.

BEAUMARIS BOATHOUSE

Belonging to the Beaumaris marina and backing on to the 7th tee of the Yacht Club's golf course this boathouse, viewed from the bridge, serves a double function, not only providing storage for boats but also shelter for nature, acting as a breakwater, where behind the building water lillies thrive and a beaver has stockpiled a food cache.
