DEVIL'S GAP

Today we hiked the first section of the Devil's Gap Trail, originally the colonization road between Gravenhurst and Bala. It was still very muddy in places with several pools of water to negotiate around. We encountered several species of mushrooms flanking the trail, such as this Fly Agaric crowned with a colourful leaf. Local folklore claims an early pioneer, after getting his wagon and team of oxen stuck in the mud, went for help but when he returned there was no trace of them. If the bugs were as bad as today I'm sure the team managed to extricate themselves and hightailed it out of there!

AMAZING DAY

We had an amazing day participating in the Muskoka's Amazing Race, with this year's theme focused on Georgian Bay. The race involved the towns of MacTier, Port Severn, Honey Harbour and finished on the gem of Beausoleil Island. We met terrific people, experienced good weather and saw some beautiful scenic places.

MUSKOKA'S AMAZING RACE

This Saturday is the date of the third annual Muskoka's Amazing Race, an event modeled after the hit TV series with a local twist, this year starting off and finishing at the Delawana Inn, a day of physical and mental challenges, as well as one of endurance for I work the night before and after it, but it's all for a worthy cause.

THE COUNTDOWN

The countdown has begun to August 14, the date of Muskoka's own Amazing Race. Modelled after the popular TV series, 50 teams of 2 will compete in various challenges and locations, starting from The Landscapes venue in Baysville. To participate I have to raise $200 in pledges in support of the Muskoka Trails Council and their initiatives.
